Meet the Artist
As an illustrator, Bethany primarily works in watercolour, creating artwork that blends semi-realism with a touch of fantasy. Her illustrations often focus on costume, character design, and picture book illustrations. Drawing inspiration from Australian artists such as Elise Hurst, Hieu Nguyen (KellogsLoops), and Sydney Long.
Although drawing has been a part of her life since childhood, Bethany’s creative path initially led her into costume design. It wasn’t until after university that she rediscovered old sketches of her “Scribbies,” which reignited her passion for painting.
This rediscovery eventually inspired her to begin writing a picture book after being told one too many times that her “Scribbies” illustrations "would make a great kids' book". Bethany took the leap and began writing. Though not yet published, she continues to pursue that dream.
Bethany is an Australian illustrator, writer, and costumer with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Costume from NIDA. She has worked in a variety of costume roles across film, television, and theatre, including as a costume designer. A self-described jack of all trades, Bethany is driven by a deep love of learning and a passion for storytelling in all its forms.
Whether she’s building worlds through words, brushstrokes, or fabric, Bethany approaches every project with curiosity, imagination, and a spirit of exploration. She enjoys writing for both picture books and adult fiction, and is constantly experimenting with new skills and mediums to bring her ideas to life.
